2 soldiers, 3 militiamen hurt in North Cotabato highway mishap

From the Philippine News Agency (Feb 24): 2 soldiers, 3 militiamen hurt in North Cotabato highway mishap

Two soldiers and three militiamen were injured in a vehicular crash along a highway in the borders of Arakan and President Roxas towns in North Cotabato late Thursday.

The soldiers and members of Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU) were on their way to their camp from a secluded area when their vehicle flipped and rolled over after one of its front tires blew out along the national highway in Barangay Ilustre in President Roxas.

The Arakan PNP identified the injured infantrymen as Private First Class Lord John Singson and Rocky Villamore and the militiamen as Ric Gomez, Ronnie Librando and Delio Dangin.

Singson and Villamore both belong to the Army’s 39th Infantry Battalion which has jurisdiction over the towns of Arakan, Magpet and President Roxas, three towns infiltrated by the communist New Peoples Army.

Government forces and NPA guerillas have frequently figured in clashes the past week.

Police said the driver of KM450 vehicle lost control of the steering wheel after one of its front tires exploded at about 6 p.m., causing the road crash.
