From the Philippine Information Agency (Feb 24): GPH-MILF peace implementing panel heads cite TJRC Report

Acknowledging the relevance of the Report, GPH Peace Implementing Panel Chair Irene Santiago, calling for genuine listening process, emphasized the importance of men, women and children in the human engagements.

“Men, women and children, we need to encourage genuine human engagements. We need platforms from which continuous dialogue, actions and solutions take place. We look forward to the strong partnership of the MILF and the Bangsamoro people in exercising a moral imagination. Because if we can’t imagine it, we can’t work for it,” Santiago said.

MILF Peace Implementing Chair Mohagher Iqbal, on the other hand, expressed his appreciation in behalf of the MILF, to the government for its continuous support to the Bangsamoro community.

“Foremost, we truly appreciate and welcome the statement of GPH Peace Implementing Panel Chair Irene Santiago that the government of President Rodrigo Duterte will organize the National Transitional Justice and Reconciliation Commission on the Bangsamoro or NTJRCB”, Iqbal said.

Such gesture, Iqbal said is a bold step on the part of the government.

According to Iqbal, the creation of the NTJRCB is a major recommendation made in the 125-page TJRC Report which was turned over to both GPH and MILF panels in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in February 2016.

The NTJRCB as described in the said report shall oversee and support the operations of four sub-commissions to ensure the implementation of the dealings in the past framework, promote healing and reconciliation, Iqbal said.

In line with practice, Iqbal said, they hope to be given the chance to look at the draft of the proposed executive order creating the NTJRCB, giving meaning and substance to the GPH-MILF partnership and efforts for the resolution of the conflict in Mindanao.

Iqbal said, he is pushing that the TJRC Report be included and shall form part of the Annex on Normalization under the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB).
