From the Philippine News Agency (Feb 6): NPA rebel killed, war materials seized in Occidental Mindoro clash
A suspected New People's Army rebel was killed in an encounter with the military in Sta. Cruz, Occidental Mindoro Sunday afternoon.
The clash, which lasted 30 minutes, was the first to have taken place after Pres. Rodrigo Duterte terminated the peace talks with the National Democratic Front Saturday in wake of unprovoked NPA attacks against government troops.
Since last week, six troopers have been killed.
The clash took place around 2 p.m. at Barangay Pinagturilan, said 2nd Infantry Division 2nd Lt. Xy-zon Meneses in a message to the PNA.
He added the government troops were patrolling the area after receiving reports that a group of 20 NPA rebels were gathered in the area.
The NPA band was believed to be among the insurgents who attacked and looted a security detachment in Nasugbu, Batangas last Jan. 31.
Seized were improvised explosive device, a .45 caliber pistol and its clip, an M-16 rifle magazine, one binoculars, four backpacks, and personnel belongings.
No losses were sustained by government forces in the encounter, Meneses said.
The body of the slain rebel was also recovered, he added.
