From the Philippine News Agency (Feb 6): US firefighters train BFP personnel in Negros Island Region
A group of firefighters from California, USA arrived in Negros Occidental to hold a training outreach for personnel of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Negros Island Region (NIR).
Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. met with members of Firefighters for Christ led by John White during their courtesy visit at the Capitol Monday.
The visiting firefighters are conducting trainings on safe firefighting and water rescue and on combating forest fires.
Superintendent Fred Trajeras Jr., Acting Director of BFP-NIR, had earlier said about 40 personnel from various BFP-NIR unit are attending the trainings.
Trajeras added that the American fighters will also donate equipment to the region.
He thanked the governor for assisting the BFP-NIR in the accommodation of the visiting firefighters.
For his part, Marañon had told the fire marshals of the cities and municipalities of Negros Occidental to work together and unite to make the province more progressive and safe.
In a recent New Year’s Call of the BFP-NIR officials to the governor, they were joined by Undersecretary Jesus Hinlo Jr. of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).
Hinlo said the DILG plans to set up a computerized system for the BFP for more efficient transactions, particularly in securing fire safety clearances and permits.
