From the Philippine News Agency (Feb 7): Napolcom backs 42 SAF troopers for Medal of Valor
The National Police Commission (Napolcom) has recommended to President Rodrigo Duterte the conferment of the Medal of Valor to 42 Special Action Force (SAF) troopers who died in action in Mamasapano, Maguindanao on Jan. 25, 2015 to neutralize a known terrorist.
"We will never forget the SAF 44 heroes. It is only right and just to award all of them with the highest recognition, the Medal of Valor or 'Medalya ng Kagitingan'," Napolcom vice chairman and executive officer Rogelio Casurao said in a news release issued Tuesday.
The commission has already awarded the medal to two of the 44 commandos -- PCInsp Gednat Tabdi and PO2 Romeo Cempron.
It noted that the families of medal of valor awardees are entitled to a lifetime monthly pension of PHP20,000 with several incentives and special privileges, including the one-rank posthumous promotion, gratuity, pension and scholarship grants for their children.
The 44 SAF commandos were able to neutralize Zulkifli Bin Hir, also known as Marwan, one of the most wanted terrorists and bomb-makers in Southeast Asia with a USD5 million reward in the Rewards for Justice Program of the US Department of State.
