A member of the defunct Revolutionary Proletarian Army-Alex Boncayao Brigade facing murder charges, was arrested yesterday by Army soldiers in Silay City, while policemen recovered three firearms and suspected shabu from a farmer in Kabankalan City, all in Negros Occidental.

Ronald Porras Europa, 46, was apprehended by troopers of the 62 nd Infantry Battalion Charlie Company headed by 1Lt. John William Portillano in Hacienda Herminal, Brgy. Guimbalaon, Silay City, for illegal possession of firearms.

Supt. Willy Diel, Silay City police officer-in-charge, said last night that the arrest of  Europa yielded a KG9 automatic pistol with two magazines containing 41 ammunition.

Diel said that Europa has a pending arrest warrant for murder, with no bail recommended.

Europa was immediately endorsed by the Philippine Army to the Silay City Police Station for more investigations.

Diel said that the warrant of arrest was also served to Europa, who is now in jail.

The arrest of Europa came after the Philippine Army resumed its internal peace security operations, following the lifting of unilateral ceasefire with the New People's Army.

The RPA-ABB, which is now known as Kapatiran, entered into peace talks with the government in year 2000. Almost 17 years later, the government has yet to sign the closure agreement with the RPA-ABB, where many of its leaders died in assassination activities of the NPA.

Meanwhile, a police team yesterday swooped down on the house of a farmer in Brgy. Tapi, Kabankalan City, for illegal possession of firearms.

The raid at the house of the suspect identified as Hepolito Abad led to the recovery of three firearms, including a .45 caliber Colt pistol with two magazines containing seven ammunition, another .45 caliber pistol (STI International Spartan with two magazines containing 14 bullets, as well as an improvised shotgun.

Senior Supt. William Señoron,provincial police director of Negros Occidental, said 51 more live ammunition from 45 caliber pistol, suspected shabu, and its paraphernalia were also recovered, during the raid.
