2 rebels caught; 2 surrender

From the Mindanao Times (Feb 12): 2 rebels caught; 2 surrender

TWO NPA members were caught by troops of the 73rd Infantry Battalion, while two others surrendered in Sarangani and Compostela Valley on Sunday, Feb. 12.
 
Capt. Rhyan Batchar, spokesperson of 10th Infantry Division, said pursuing troops of 73rd Infantry Battalion captured suspects Nonoy Sanama and Morelo Sanama in Sitio Solutan, Barangay Datal Anggas, Alabel, Sarangani at around 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Soldiers also recovered one M16 Armalite rifle one M1 Garand rifle from the two rebels.

On the other hand, another NPA member, identified only as alias Kaloy, brought along a Garand rifle when he surrendered to the 73rd IB with the help of local officials. The three NPA are all members of Guerrilla Front 71.
 
Meanwhile, alias Dodoy of Pulang Bagani Command (PBC) 4 surrendered to the 60th Infantry Battalion at 11 a.m. of the same day. He claimed to be part of the rebels who clashed with soldiers a day later.
 
Dodoy revealed that he left behind an AK-47 rifle with five rounds ammunition, an improvised explosive device, improvised hand grenade, blasting caps, detonating switch, batteries and a 150-meter wire at the encounter site in Barangay Bollucan, Laak, Compostela Valley on Saturday, Feb. 11.

He said 15 of their platoon members escaped, leaving only four rebels to fight it out with the soldiers. He sought help from a civilian who in turn accompanied him to the army headquarters.

Also on Sunday, six other NPA members in possession of five high-powered firearms were captured by troops of 73rd IB in Barangay Datal Anggas, Alabel, Sarangani.

Based on the 10th ID report, eight NPA members were already captured and seven high powered firearms recovered; two brought along their firearms when they surrendered, and three improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were recovered in Alabel, Sarangani and Laak, Compostela Valley.

Maj. Gen.Rafael Valencia, the division commander, reiterated his call for other NPA members to leave their group.

“The full force of the law will sooner or later caught you, thus while you still have the time, turn yourself in and embrace our offer for peace,” he said.
