From InterAksyon (Oct 22): WATCH | MPD shows video proving protesters started violence at US Embassy
The Manila Police District on Friday showed a video footage which would prove that anti-US demonstrators started the violence in front of the US Embassy on Wednesday last week.
The MPD video showed the protesters advancing against the outnumbered anti-riot police and destroying the barricades set up along T.M. Kalaw Street.
In another video from a CCTV surveillance camera, two protesters were seen standing on top of a police van while other militants were rocking the vehicle. A few moments later, the police van driven by PO3 Franklin Kho was seen plowing through the demonstrators, resulting in injuries to many militants.
Despite this, NCRPO director Chief Superintendent Oscar Albayalde insisted that the police did not start the violence.
While the incident is being investigated, the chief of the MPD, Senior Supt. Marcelino Pedrozo, and eight other policemen involved in the violent rally dispersal were relieved from their posts.
PO3 Kho, who is under custody of the NCRPO, insisted that he acted only to preserve life and property and did not intentionally hurt the activists.
Pedrozo admitted that he became angry when the protesters breached the no rally zone, adding that he was having a meeting at that time when the violence started.
He said the protesters had no plan to negotiate and just charged at the anti-riot police.
But Bayan secretary general Renato Reyes countered that the police had initially planned to disperse the demonstrators.
