Seven senior Philippine Army (PA) officers were promoted to
their next higher rank during short ceremonies in Fort
Bonifacio , Taguig City
Monday.
The donning ceremonies, which were held at the PA Officers'
Club House, were presided by Army commander Lt. Gen. Eduardo M. Año,.
Brig. Generals Edgar F. Gonzales and Harold N. Cabreros were
promoted to Major General.
Gonzales is the Mechanized Infantry Division commander while
Cabreros is the head of the 3rd Infantry Division.
While Colonels Alexander L. Macario, Light Reaction Regiment
commander; Casiano C. Monilla, 10th Infantry Division assistant commander;
Cesar M. Idio, 8th Infantry Division assistant division commander; Ronald C.
Villanueva, 1002nd Infantry Brigade commander; Rolando D. Bautista,
Presidential Security Group head, all received their first stars which is
equivalent to Brigadier General's rank.
"Bearing a star on one's soldier symbolizes the pennant
of a fruitful military career after overcoming bumps and obstacles along the
way. Your new rank testifies to the trust and confidence of the command in your
ability to manage greater responsibilities befitting the stars on your
shoulder," Año said.
He also reminded the newly-promoted generals of the Army's
major thrusts and priority tasks.
"I count on you to exert efforts in sustaining our
operational readiness at the highest level possible. We must not forget that
our core competency remains to be warfigting. In the same manner, let us also
support the Philippine National Police and other law enforcement agencies in
upholding law and order and contributing to the country's relentless campaign
against illegal drugs and all forms of criminality," Año said.
