A possible improvised explosive device (IED) attack by the Guerilla Front 51 of the New People’s Army under the Southern Mindanao Regional Committee (SMRC) was prevented when a civilian discovered the improvised bomb along a river at Brgy Sinoron, Sta Cruz Davao del Sur morning of Monday, August 1, 2016.
After the concerned citizen reported and guided elements of 39th Infantry Battalion to the location of the IED. The IED was recovered for proper disposition.
The 10th Infantry ‘Agila’ Division of the Philippine Army said the IED is weighing approximately eight kilograms.
10ID commander Major General Rafael Valencia praised the concerned citizen for his selfless act.
“He saved not only the lives of our soldiers but the unwary civilians that might be victimized by the wanton laying of IED by the NPAs,” Major General Valencia said.
