NPA IED attack foiled by concerned civilian in Davao Del Sur

From the Philippine News Agency (Aug 2): NPA IED attack foiled by concerned civilian in Davao Del Sur

A New People's Army (NPA) improvised explosive device attack was foiled after a concerned civilian reported the presence of the IED in Sta. Cruz town, Davao Del Sur Monday morning.

Capt. Rhyan Batchar, 10th Infantry Division public affairs office chief, said the concerned civilian discovered the IED at the river near Barangay Sinoron around 8:00 a.m.

He added the former immediately reported his find to nearby 39th Infantry Battalion troops who then immediately disarmed the eight-kilogram IED which was reportedly planted by NPAs under Guerilla Front 51 of the Southern Mindanao Regional Committee.

"He saved not only the lives of our soldiers but the unwary civilians that might be victimized by the wanton laying of IED by the NPAs," 10th Infantry Division commander Major Gen. Rafael Valencia said.
