Three Special Forces troopers were wounded in two separate
ambushes in Basilan early Wednesday morning.
Western Mindanao Command spokesperson Major Filemon Tan said
the first incident took place when a KM-450 truck transporting eight members of
the 14th Special Forces Company was fired upon by still unidentified gunmen at
3:30 a.m. while patrolling in Barangay Townsite, Maluso town.
This security operation was done to secure the ongoing feast
of the Immaculate Heart of Marish Parish Church.
Two of the soldiers were hit and wounded in this attack, Tan
said.
The second ambush occurred at 3:50 a.m. as responding units
were transporting the wounded troops for treatment at the Ballaho Clinic, also
in Maluso.
Another soldier was wounded in this incident, raising the
number of injured government troops to three.
The gun battle lasted for two minutes before the attackers
decided to escape.
All three wounded soldiers were eventually taken to the Basilan Community Hospital
for treatment.
