Military, PSG bar journos from covering Duterte Basilan visit - NUJP

From InterAksoyn (Jul 21): Military, PSG bar journos from covering Duterte Basilan visit - NUJP

(UPDATE - 11:32 a.m.) The military and the Presidential Security Group barred three journalists, including the acting chair of the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines' ZamBaSulTachapter, from covering the visit of President Rodrigo Duterte to Basilan on Thursday.

In an alert released by the NUJP, Julie Alipala, a member of the organization’s national directorate, said there was “no clear explanation” given for why the Western Mindanao Command, the 104th Infantry Brigade, and the Presidential Security Group would not allow Queenie Casimiro, news chief of ABS-CBN Zamboanga, cameraman Sonny Dagohoy, and Richard Falcatan, station manager of Ronda del Basilan, to cover the presidential visit.

Casimiro is acting chairwoman of the NUJP ZamBaSulTa (Zamboanga, Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi) chapter while Facaltan is vice president for radio of the Zamboanga Press Club.

In a subsequent update, Alipala, who is covering the Duterte visit, said the three journalists have been allowed to proceed with their coverage with a Charry Mantalan of the Malacanang Media Accreditation and Relations Office saying they had needed to be "cleared" first.
