The Department of Interior and Local Government, through the
Comprehensive Local Integration Program (CLIP), targets to entice 977 persons
nationwide who are alleged members of the New People’s Army (NPA) to surrender
this 2016.
Edgar Bryan G. Bernardino, DILG CLIP Area Coordinator, said
that because of the volume of their targets they are conducting a three-day
training on the CLIP Information Management System (CIMS), from July 19-21 at
Casa Pilar Hotel in Boracay island.
Personnel from the DILG Regional Office 6, headed by lawyer
Anthony C. Nuyda, as well as the provincial directors of DILG-6 and the local
social welfare and development officers are attending the training to equip
them in coming up with the database of the profiles of former rebels.
He said the regional and provincial DILG offices and the
local social welfare and development offices could greatly help fast-track the
processing of the documentary requirements so that the former rebels could
avail of the PHP 15,000 immediate assistance and the PHP 50,000 for livelihood
and firearm renumeration. Another PHP 7,000 is allocated for the integration of
former rebels to the receiving unit like the church.
Since January 1 this year there are already 400 former
rebels who have surrendered and have received financial assistance while others
are in the process of receiving it, he added.
