From InterAksyo (Jul 6): Abu Sayyaf frees hostage in Patikul, Sulu
The Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) on Wednesday, July 6, freed a hostage identified as Araji Maani, a radio station reported.
Maani, said to be a businessman, was freed before 11 a.m. in Brgy. Wanni Piyanjihan, Patikul, Sulu and is now undergoing counseling before he is brought back to his family. At least nine foreigners and three Filipinos are still in the hands of the terrorist group.
Earlier news reports identified Maani as a Filipino, who was held captive on July 27, 2015. He was with other local hostages identified as Antonio Tan and Ronnie Bangcale.
Meanwhile, it was also reported that at least one ASG member was killed during a five-minute encounter between Abu 20 Sayyaf bandits and the Philippine Army's 35th Infantry Battalion before 8 a.m., Wednesday in Brgy. Maligay, Patikul, Sulu.
The remains of the reported ASG member and a .45-caliber pistol were recovered by the military from the encounter site.
