From the Philippine News Agency (Jun 30): President Duterte reiterates PHL commitment to honor treaties, int'l obligations

President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday reiterated the Philippines’ commitment to honor treaties and international obligations.

President Duterte renewed the country’s commitment during his inauguration as the 16th President of the Republic of the Philippines in a simple ceremony held at the Rizal Hall of the Malacanang Palace.

”On the international front and community of nations, let me reiterate that the Republic of the Philippines will honor treaties and international obligations,” the new President said in his speech.

During the traditional meeting with the members of the Diplomatic Corps, President Duterte stressed his commitment to serve not only the Filipino people but to engage the world to provide stability and security.

”Today, we honor the Filipino people’s powerful victory to peacefully give voice to their aspirations for a life of constancy and dignity. Our people have spoken and the message is very clear.

”We seek a nation living in peace and order. We shall engage the world and make a solid contribution for our stability and security.

”And therefore, Excellencies, I propose this toast: To our friends and partners in the region and the world over, we look to you for support as we continue to work together for peace, security and progress,” President Duterte said before offering a toast.

In response, Diplomatic Corps dean Papal Nuncio Archbishop Guiseppe Pinto congratulated President Duterte and wished success for the country’s 16th President.

”We are grateful to you, Mr. President, for your kind invitation to this historic encounter and offer to the diplomatic family the possibility to great you personally in order to strengthen the bonds of friendship and collaboration between the Philippines and the government of their countries and international organizations they represent,” Archbishop Pinto said.
