In line with President Rodrigo Roa Duterte's call for
change, incoming Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief-of-staff Lt. Gen.
Ricardo Visaya said the military will give the new Chief Executive the strength
and power to lead the country.
"There will be always be spoilers when changes are
being instituted and the most effective agents to arrest them are the law
enforcers that include the AFP," he added.
Visaya, a member of the Philippine Military Academy Class of
1983, is scheduled to take command of the 120,000-strong AFP on July 1,
replacing acting AFP chief-of-staff Lt. Gen. Glorioso Miranda.
Duterte will be present in Friday's change-of-command
ceremonies. The AFP will also give him the traditional parade and review during
the 1:00 p.m. event which will be held in front of GHQ Grandstand, Camp Aguinaldo ,
Quezon City .
"Thus, we are the muscle of the President that will
give him strength and power for him to lead our country united and
peaceful," Visaya stressed.
“Our battlecry in behalf of the people was for genuine and
meaningful change. For that change to be permanent and significant, it must
start with us and in us,” Duterte said.
He reiterated his campaign promise to prioritize ending
corruption, crime and illegal drugs.
