Police and Army soldiers arrested a man who introduced
himself as a New People's Army member and extorted money from a provincial
board member of Catanduanes in an entrapment operation at Barangay San Vicente,
Viga town at about 9 a.m. Tuesday.
Suspect Al V. Usero, alias Ka Jorge and Ka Melvin, did not
resist arrest when caught by combined elements of the Viga Municipal Police
Station led by SPO1 Erwin Pichuela and members of the 83rd Infantry Battalion
of the Philippine Army.
A report reaching Camp Gen. Simeon A. Ola here said Board
Member Arnel Turado, a resident of Barangay Cavinitan, Viga, Catanduanes,
received a text message from Usero asking for Php20,000 in payment of his
revolutionary tax.
In their exchanges of text messages Turado was able to lower
the amount to Php5,000 and the two agreed that the provincial official would
pay through the Smart Padala mode of payment.
The authorities immediately set up the entrapment operation.
They found in Usero's possession a Php1,000 marked money, fake
paper bills and two cellphones.
