4 kids wounded as clan war erupts in North Cotabato town

From InterAksyon (Jun 23): 4 kids wounded as clan war erupts in North Cotabato town

PIKIT, North Cotabato -- A long-running feud between clans in a remote village of Pikit, North Cotabato turned violent Wednesday afternoon, leaving four children wounded, police said.

Chief Inspector Joseph Placer, Pikit police chief, said the children, aged 1 to 9, were hurt when a rifle grenade was fired at the house of Barangay Bualan councilman Zoren Ayunan past 2 p.m.

Police said the grenade attack was in apparent retaliation for the shooting of Norodin Musa, 31, in the nearby town of Aleosan earlier in the day. Relatives of Musa, who was seriously wounded, blamed members of the Ayunan clan for the shooting.

Both families have relatives in the Moro Islamic Liberation Front and Moro National Liberation Front, police said.

The local government is spearheading efforts to convince the warning families to negotiate a peaceful resolution of their differences.
