From the Philippine News Agency (Apr 13): HPG member dies in Sorsogon ambush
 
A member of the Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group dropped dead from his motorcycle after peppered with bullets from different calibers fired by 10 suspects at Barangay Sinebaran, Matnog, Sorsogon at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Senior Insp. Maria Luisa Calubaquib, PNP Bicol regional information officer, identified the victim as SPO1 James Jose Mortega, a resident of Centro Poblacion, Camalig, Albay and member of the HPG Field Office based at Matnog Port Area, Sorsogon.

Calubaquib said Mortega sustained multiple shots in different parts of his body.

She quoted an investigation report saying that prior to the ambush witnesses saw the 10 suspects roaming near the boundary of Barangay Tabunan and Barangay Sinebaran near the way of the police officer.

Police are still investigating the incident.
