Cops hunting down grenade attacker on N. Cotabato town mayor's home

From the Philippine News Agency (Apr 13): Cops hunting down grenade attacker on N. Cotabato town mayor's home

Police authorities here are hunting down two men who tossed a hand grenade in front of the house of Pikit Mayor Muhyryn Sultan Casi Tuesday afternoon.

Senior Insp. Sindatu Karim, Pikit town police chief, said police already know the identities of the two suspects who lobbed the grenade at 3 p.m. along Bai Matambai Salam Street, in front of the town mayor's home.

He, however, did not reveal the suspects' identities pending their arrest. Nobody was hurt in the incident.

Responding police agents recovered fragments of MK-67 fragmentation grenade.

Pikit is one of the towns in North Cotabato the Commission on Elections (Comelec) declared as "election hotspot".

Karim said police investigators consider the incident as a form of harassment against the mayor's father who is running for the town mayorship post.

"It was election-related per our initial investigation," Karim said, adding that more police officers have been deployed in areas known as crime prone.

It was the fourth grenade attack in town since January, including those in the house of a political aspirant which came before the campaign period began.
