ZAMBOANGA CITY -- A teenage student died while 32 others, including a one-year old child, were injured in a bomb explosion that rocked the city on Friday afternoon.

Supt. Felixberto Martinez of Zamboanga City police Special Investigation Unit (SIU), said the incident took place shortly after 2 p.m. on Friday at the bus terminal at Tomas Claudio Street, Barangay Zone I.

A passenger bus, with body number 1641, of D’ Biel Transit Company was damaged since the bomb was placed at the mid-section of the vehicle.

The bus had just arrived and unloaded passengers at the terminal coming from Barangay Labuan, 36 kilometers west of this city.

The bus is owned by the family of Councilor Luis Biel, III, who is at present on official trip to China, together with Mayor Ma. Isabelle Climaco-Salazar and other city government officials.

The victims were rushed to the different hospitals for medical treatment.

Supt. Diomarie Albarico, Police Station 11 chief, revealed that one of the victims was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

The explosion has paralyzed the operations of several business establishments within the vicinity of the bus terminal.

The personnel of the explosive ordnance demolition (EOD) are sifting the blast site as investigation continues in a bid to identify the suspects.
