Tired of the ceaseless fighting and violence and wishing to
live in in peace with his loved ones, a New People's Army (NPA) medical platoon
vice team leader voluntarily surrendered to military authorities in Compostela
Valley last Sept. 8.
Capt. Alberto Caber, Eastern Mindanao Command public affairs
office chief, in a statement Thursday, identified the rebel returnee as one
"George," vice team leader of a NPA medical platoon assigned to
Southern Mindanao Regional Committee.
He surrendered to troopers of the 71st Infantry Battalion at
Barangay Pangibiran, Mabini town, Compostela
Valley at 2 p.m.
"George" was brought by the soldiers to Mabini PNP
station and to the municipal health office for documentation and medical
check-up.
His decision to surrender was fueled by the desire to live
peacefully with his family and avail of the government's Comprehensive Local
Integration Program (CLIP).
Through CLIP, returnees can receive livelihood and
appropriate training assistance from the government.
As of this year, there are already 214 NPA members who
returned to the folds of the law through the units of Eastern Mindanao Command.
