From the Philippine News Agency (Sep 9): Police tighten security as Zambo Sur marks 63rd anniversary

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur -– The police in coordination with the military has tightened the implementation of security measures to ensure the peaceful celebration of the week-long provincial anniversary.

The activities for the week-long celebration of the 63rd Araw ng Zamboanga del Sur will kick-off Thursday and ends September 17.

Senior Supt. Sofronio Ecaldre, provincial police director, said policemen and soldiers will be detailed in all of the venues of activities.

Ecaldre said that policemen from other municipalities in the province have been temporarily assigned to this city to augment the local police force.

Ecaldre said the military counterpart in handling the security measures are troops from the Army’s 53rd Infantry Battalion.

The celebration of the provincial anniversary is couple with the holding of the Philippine National Games, which will also kick-off Thursday.

Around 6,000 athletes and sports officials will see action in the five-day PNG in this city.
