Sixty Lumad leaders from various tribes in Agusan Del Sur
voluntarily signed a manifesto seeking to free their tribal domains from New
People's Army (NPA) influence.
The signing took place last Sept. 22, 4th Infantry Division
public affairs office chief Capt. Joe Patrick Martinez said Thursday.
The activity was held at the Agusan Del Sur Provincial
Tribal Council, he added.
The manifesto also underscored that the NPAs have no right
to exist in their tribal areas and to intervene on tribal matters.
They seek peace to prosper in their communities that will
eventually lead to their own development.
“Our Indigenous People brothers to include their communities
have to be protected against any threat group. Thus, we fully support our IP
leaders in Agusan Del Sur in their manifesto in the pursuit of Peace. Let us
all work together to end violence in our IP communities and allow them to live
in a peaceful and harmonious society," 4th Infantry Division commander
Major Gen. Oscar T. Lactao said.
