An unarmed trooper of the 12th Scout Ranger Company was shot
and killed by still unidentified gunmen Thursday afternoon.
Capt. Alberto Caber, Eastern Mindanao Command public affairs
office chief, said the soldier, whose name is being withheld pending the
notification of his relatives, was on his way home after taking his son to the
San Antonio Elementary School, Barangay San Antonio, Mabini town, Compostela
Valley when gunned down by two men aboard two XRM motorcycles at 12:30 p.m..
The suspects quickly fled after the shooting.
Joint elements from 71st Infantry Battalion and Mabini
Police Station are now conducting follow-up operations.
Eastern Mindanao Command head Lt. Gen. Aurelio B. Baladad
earlier directed military unit commanders in the region to be vigilant at all
times.
