Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) Chairman Murad Ebrahim on Friday expressed the hope that the Eid celebration marking the end of Ramadan, where Muslims fast for a month, can also serve the struggle of the Bangsamoro people for peace and justice.

Chairman Ebrahim was at Camp Darapanan in Sultan Kudarat, where he spoke for a few minutes with journalists.

"Our quest for justice, and the Bangsamoro peace process is recognized by many nations and international NGOs, agencies of the United Nations," Ebrahim noted, even as he underscored the hope of the Muslim community that the BBL will be passed and implemented before President Aquino steps down next year.

The MILF and the Aquino administration are lobbying for the passage of the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL), which will grant autonomy to the troubled region.

The draft BBL got stalled at the Senate after an unfortunate encounter between the police Special Action Forces (SAF) and the MILF in Mamasapano, Maguindanao Province earlier this January. The SAF commandos had gone into MILF territory to arrest two terrorists but without proper coordination with the MILF side. At least 44 commandos and several civilians, including children, were killed and wounded.

"Let's hope that those who oppose the peace process can come to the realization of the greater good, the wisdom of Bangsamoro for our people, not only for the MILF, but for the whole country," Ebrahim said.
