From Ang Malaya (Jul 31): China: Does US want nothing but chaos in the region?
The Ministry of National Defense (MND) of China has expressed serious concern on United States activities to militarize the West Philippine Sea. The Chinese ministry said, during a press conference July 30, US has been sending military ships and planes to conduct frequent close-in reconnaissance activities against China.
The Chinese MND also said US and other countries are strengthening military ties. “The US has been further strengthening its military alliance in the region to increase its military presence and conducting frequent joint military exercises,” Chinese National Defense Spokesperson Yang Yujun said using Chinese language with English translation posted at the Chinese MND’s website.
He also noted the recent patrol US Navy P-8A Poseidon patrol mission with the commander of US Pacific Fleet. He said the patrol mission creates “tensions in the region and increasing the risk of unexpected incidents in the air space and maritime area of the region.”
“Such actions taken by the US side would inevitably arouse the question from others – does the US want nothing but chaos in the region?” the Chinese spokesperson said.
China also urged US to stop ‘harming’ the development of state-to-state and military-to-military relations in the region. “The relevant people in the US should be prudent and cautious in their remarks and actions, keep their promise of not choosing sides on the sovereignty issue of the South China Sea,” Yang Yujun said.
