From the Sun Star-Davao (Aug 1): Catamco, 27 others sued for unwanted rescue
TWENTY-EIGHT people, including North Cotabato Representative Nancy Catamco, involved during the commotion at the UCCP Haran evacuation center for the rescue of the lumad evacuees last July 23, now face charges before the City Prosecutor's Office excluding those who are still to be identified through the videos of the incident.
UCCP Haran, represented by Bishop Hamuel Tequis together with two other pastors, tribal chieftains, and other members of the militant group, filed charges of usurpation of authority or official function, physical injuries inflicted in a tumultuous affray, serious physical injuries, qualified trespass to dwelling, grave threats, grave coercion, and malicious mischief.
Included in the list with Catamco are Colonel (Police Supt.) Marvin Pepino, Colonel (Police Supt.) Filmore Escobal, Colonel Jake Obligado, Senior Police Inspector Ronald Lao, Nestor Apas, Arturo Davao,Benito Mantayona,Lumansad Sibugan,Datu Pogsing Bubonan, Laris Masaloon, Angaso Manampow,Evangelio Warag, Matol Masaloon, and Dawanas Masaloon.
Some of the respondents, who were mostly police officers, were identified through a video captured during the commotion while others are still to be known.
Kapalong Mayor Edgardo Timbol, Vice Mayor Ma. Teresa Timbol, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Assistant Regional Director Rebecca Santamaria, DSWD Crisis Intervention Unit Head Pedrita Dimaquiling were also named in the charges along with the other government officials from Kapalong.
Lawyers Joel Mahinay, Manuel Quibod, Faye Risonar-Bello, and Kay Paquera will be the private prosecutor for the complainants along with a city prosecutor.
