Chinese reclamation activities drawing world to uncertainties - Defense spokesperson

From the Philippine News Agency (Jun 17): Chinese reclamation activities drawing world to uncertainties - Defense spokesperson

With Chinese reclamation on the West Philippine Sea still in full swing, Defense spokesperson Dr. Peter Paul Galvez said these activities, if not stopped, will draw the world closer to further uncertainties.

"We reiterate that their activities if not stopped only draws the world closer to further uncertainties and untoward incidents with irreparable consequences," he added.

US Defense Secretary Ashton Carter, in the recently concluded Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, said China's actions in the area were "out of step" with international rules.

China claims almost the whole of the South China Sea, resulting in overlapping claims with its neighbors.

"We call on China to refrain from these selfish acts and consider the call of all nations for them to abide by the internationally accepted rules as stipulated in UNCLOS (United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea)," Galvez said.
