Troops pursue retired soldier's abductors in Sulu

From the Philippine News Agency (Apr 8): Troops pursue retired soldier's abductors in Sulu

Troops are pursuing a group of gunmen, suspected to be members of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG), who seized a retired soldier off Pangutaran, Sulu, a military official disclosed Wednesday.

Capt. Maria Rowena Muyuela, Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) information officer, identified the victim as Marine MSgt. Renato Fernandez (ret.)

Muyuela said Fernandez was seized around 9:15 p.m. Monday in the municipal waters of Pangutaran, an island town in the province of Sulu.

Muyuela said Fernandez was aboard a motorboat named ML RJ Express when forcibly taken by four gunmen, who pretended to be among the motorboat’s passengers.

The gunmen transferred Fernandez to one of two motorized bancas and sped to unknown direction.

Troops from the Joint Task Group Sulu in coordination with the police forces have yet to locate the victim.
