Ghazali Jaafar, 1st Vice Chairman of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front Central Committee (MILF-CC), said the Moro Front will most likely elevate the Bangsamoro struggle for right to self-determination before the United Nations (UN) once the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) is watered down by congress.
“The people will laugh at us if we accept a watered-down BBL,” Jaafar said in a news forum yesterday, March 25.
Jafaar’s statement came in the light of uncertain status of the BBL in both Houses of Congress after the Mamasapano clash last January 25 where 44 elite police commandos, 17 MILF fighters and three civilians perished in an uncoordinated police operation to get dead or alive Malaysian terrorist bomber Zulkifli bin Hir alias Marwan and his Maguindanaon right-hand man Basit Usman.
Other MILF officials also expressed they will not accept a watered down BBL that is “worse” than the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) that the envisioned Bangsamoro new region ought to replace.
Jaafar said that there is timetable yet for such an option but the MILF Central Committee will make a decision once the BBL is diluted.
The MILF leader also appealed to the media, Christian churches, government officials and others sectors to give peace a chance in Mindanao.
The goal of the Bangsamoro, he said, is to pave the way for a new growth area that would be called “The New Mindanao.”
“As we aim to build up The New Mindanao, guns shall be changed to shovels. Cannons shall be changed into tractors. Bombs will be changed to fertilizers. Bullets shall be changed to seedlings. While armies shall be changed to farmers, and these can be attained through just and dignified peace in Mindanao” Jaafar said further.
In the same forum, Jafaar appealed to everyone to give the Moro children the chance to eat three times a day, buy clothes, go to school, and other activities children in Metro Manila and other peaceful communities not affected by war.
