Around 5,725 families or 28,685 people have been internally displaced by the current military offensive against the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) in Maguindanao.

The Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao and other local government units have been able to provide assistance to the displaced, but the current offensives have rendered such assistance difficult to provide, said Atty. Laisa Alamia, ARMM executive secretary.

Apart from the people who are now housed in evacuation sites, farm animals also have to be evacuated due to the fighting.

Some civilians have complained of lost belongings left in their homes.

Thousands of students from seven Maguindanao towns have also been affected.

Despite the confusing situation, the BIFF said the military appears to be only wasting their bullets. According to BIFF spokesman Abu Misri Mama, no BIFF rebel has been hit by the military mortars and cannons.

The BIFF said three soldiers have been wounded and two tanks have been destroyed.
