Three suspected members of the outlawed Bangsamoro Islamic
Freedom Fighters (BIFF) were arrested by police authorities here on Sunday
night.
Inspector Harris Lino, Shariff Aguak police chief, said the
trio were on board a motorbike speeding in Barangay Poblacion Mother when
lawmen intercepted them.
One of the three suspects tried to pull a hand gun but was
subdued by lawmen at 10 p.m.
A body inspection resulted in the confiscation of three hand
grenades, three cal. 45 pistol, several magazines for M-16 Armalite rifle and
unregistered motorcycle.
"We are determining if they are members of the BIFF
which is on the run due to military operation," Insp. Lino said.
He identified the suspects as Omar Sawal, Rashid Ayungan and
John Yunaw, all residents of Shariff Aguak.
"They could not explain why they carry high powered
guns while a military operation against BIFF was on-going," he said.
"We can only surmise they were BIFF members."
"They will be charged for illegal possession of
firearms and explosives," Lino said of the suspects who are now detained
at PNP-Shariff Aguak lock up cell.
