From the Philippine News Agency (Feb 3): Basilan rubber farm owner critically wounded in bomb explosion

A rubber farm owner was critically wounded in an improvised bomb explosion in the nearby town of Sumisip, this province, the police said Tuesday.

Senior Insp. Alchmad Alibonga, Sumisip police chief, identified the victim as Hamirun Mingkong, 47, of Sitio Baag, Barangay Guiong, Sumisip.

Alibonga said investigation showed the victim was about to tap rubber trees around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday when he accidentally stepped on an improvised bomb fashioned out as a land mine.

Alibonga said Mingkong, who was critically wounded, was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

He said further investigation showed that the perpetrators of the incident are members of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) led by Musana Jamiri.
