7 more trooper slightly hurt as military pursues ASG in Sulu

From the Philippine News Agency (Feb 27): 7 more trooper slightly hurt as military pursues ASG in Sulu

Ongoing law enforcement operations against the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) has resulted in the slight wounding of seven soldiers in Sitio Bauno Bautong, Barangay Buhanginan, Patikul town, Sulu Friday.

The firefight took place after troops from Joint Task Group Sulu, which is commanded by Col. Allan Arrojado, encountered more or less 300 ASG bandits led by Radullan Sajiron.

Sources said that at least six bandits were reported killed in the encounter although this report is still to be validated.

"The AFP has continuously pursued the Abu Sayyaf bandits and their Jemaah Islamiyah associates in Sulu province after the series of encounters in the past two days," AFP public affairs office chief Lt. Col. Harold Cabunoc said.

He added that the firefight is still on-going as of this posting.

"Our troops on the ground reported seven slightly wounded soldiers due to a 40mm shrapnel," Cabunoc added.

Heavy casualties were seen on the enemy side but they were carried away by their comrades.

The group of Radullan Sahiron is believed to be holding some of the hostages.
