10 more ASG killed in Friday's fighting in Sulu

From the Philippine News Agency (Feb 28): 10 more ASG killed in Friday's fighting in Sulu

In Friday's ongoing pursuit operations against the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) in Patikul, Sulu, another 10 of the bandits were killed while another eight were wounded Friday.

This was disclosed by Western Mindanao Command spokesperson Capt. Rowena Muyuela.

Meanwhile, another 10 soldiers were wounded.

Friday's encounter took place at 12: 15 p.m. when troopers from the 1st Scout Ranger Battalion clashed with ASG members led by Radulan Sahiron at the vicinity of Sitio Baunoh Butang, Barangay Buhanginan, Patikul town, Sulu.

A fierce firefight took place causing casualties among the bandits, prompting the ASG to retreat.

While this was going on, elements from 14th Scout Ranger Reconnaissance Company engaged the retreating ASGs at 12: 25 p.m.

At this point, "A" Battery from the 8th Field Artillery Battalion then started shelling the bandits while aircraft from Tactical Operations Squadron Jolo pounded ASG positions.

As of this posting, units from the 35th Infantry Battalion and 14th Light Armor Company are now conducting blocking and checkpoint operations in the area.

In the ongoing operations, 10 ASGs were killed while another eight were wounded.

While all wounded government troopers were safely evacuated to the Kutang Heneral Teodulfo Bautista in Sulu for treatment.
