Troopers from the Compostella Valley-based 10th Infantry
Division exhumed and recovered on Tuesday the remains of a rebel returnee
executed by his former New People's Army (NPA) companions in Sitio Sigang,
Barangay Maragatas, Lupon, Davao Oriental.
1st Lt. Vergel Lacambra, 10th Infantry Division
spokesperson, said the remains of Celso B. Villarin were unearthed and
identified at 7 a.m.
Villarin, a member of the NPA Front 18, voluntarily
surrendered to the 28th Infantry Battalion in 2012.
Lacambra said Villarin was successfully integrated into the
government’s Comprehensive Local Integration Program and was living a peaceful
life when abducted by heavily-armed rebels on the night of Nov. 20 at his home
in Sitio Calasagan, San Isidro
town.
His mother, Elena Piogo, was able to recognize the armed men
as Sergio Catampao, Danilo Cila, Ryan Pitao and two other cohorts identified
only as "Jemai" and "Tomas" who were all known to her
personally as Villarin's former colleagues in the NPA.
Villarin’s family immediately reported the abduction to the
local authorities.
For quite some time, efforts to locate him were fruitlessOn
Jan. 25, a concerned villager and former “masa” (member of NPA underground mass
organization) of Sitio Sigang, voluntarily provided information to government
troops where Villarin's cadaver was buried.
The villager also confessed to have witnessed the NPAs when
they executed Villarin.
Acting on the information, combined elements of the 28th
Infantry Battalion together with policemen from Lupon, village officials and
local media personnel proceeded to the site and recovered Villarin's remains.
