A SOLDIER has escaped unscathed in a gun attack in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, the police reported Saturday.
Zamboanga Sibugay Police director Robert Roy Bahian said the incident took place around 6:30 a.m. Friday along the national highway at Sitio Pulo Pantad in Barangay Baluran, Tungawan town.
Bahian identified the soldier as Sergeant Alexander Mangubat, a member of the Philippine Army, and a resident of Libertad village, Tungawan town.
Bahian said investigation showed Mangubat was driving motorcycle from Tungawan Municipality en route to Ipil, the capital town of Zamboanga Sibugay, when shot twice by one of two men riding tandem on another motorcycle that tailed the soldier.
The suspects fled towards Ipil town after Mangubat managed to dodge and escaped unscathed during the incident, Bahian said.
