From the Philippine News Agency (Jan 11): Military chasing ASG band who shot it up with BPAT members in Sulu

Troopers from the Western Mindanao Command are conducting pursuit operations against the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) bandits who traded shots with Barangay Police Action Team (BPAT) members near Barangay Kiyutaan, Talipao, Sulu on Saturday morning.

Western Mindanao Command spokesperson Capt. Rowena Muyuela said the encounter took place at about 6:05 a.m. after some 30 ASG bandits harassed the BPAT members led by Councilor Lakim Uddin.

The ASGs were reportedly headed by sub-leaders Angga Adji and Roger Saji.

Muyuela said the bandits started their attack by firing several M-203 grenade launcher rounds at Lakim's group, prompting the latter to retaliate.

The firefight lasted for almost 10 minutes that resulted in the wounding of one BPAT member identified as Akmad Aburan.
