Six hurt as armed groups clash in Maguindanao

From GMA News (Jan 10): Six hurt as armed groups clash in Maguindanao

A clash between private armed groups in Brgy. Poblacion in Shariff Aguak, Maguindanao left at least six people injured, the Army said on Saturday.

According to Army 6th Infantry Division spokesperson Major Jo-ann Petinglay, the firefight occurred between the groups of Akmad Ampatuan and a certain "Tamano" on Friday evening.

Petinglay said Tamano's group attacked Ampatuan's home around 9:55 p.m., which led to the firefight.

Meanwhile, Shariff Aguak chief of police Insp. Michael Tinio said at least three M-79 grenades were fired near Ampatuan's home.

The Army responded by sending a platoon to the area to de-escalate the fighting between the armed groups.

Ampatuan is the former mayor of Datu Salibo town and one of the main witnesses in the Maguindanao massacre case.

The motive behind the attack is believed to be a rido or feud but authorities are still conducting an investigation to fully determine the reason and the suspects involved.
