AFP, DND express commitment to 'Bayanihan' principles

From the Philippine News Agency (Jan 5): AFP, DND express commitment to 'Bayanihan' principles

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) expressed its commitment to Internal Peace and Security Bayanihan "Bayanihan" as it welcomes the start of the working year Monday.

Incidentally, the AFP will conduct its annual New Year’s Call in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City around 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Key military and defense officials will gather in the Joint Department of National Defense (DND) and AFP New Year’s Call, a time-honored tradition where officers from the defense department and military establishments renew their commitment to their duties to the Filipino people.

Aside from the New Year’s Call at the Tejeros Hall of the AFP Commissioned Officers Club Tuesday, field units of the military will also conduct similar ceremonies in their respective headquarters.

The call on DND Secretary Voltaire T. Gazmin and AFP chief-of-staff Gen. Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr., will be attended by defense undersecretaries, assistant secretaries, and other key officials of the DND; and top level officers of the AFP down to the division level.

It will also include senior military advisers to President Benigno S. Aquino III.

Other attendees will include senior civilian employees of the General Headquarters; Defense Armed Forces Attaches; Foreign Armed Forces Attaches; the JUSMAG (Joint US Military Advisory Group) chief; presidents of AFP Financial Institutions; general officers of the Reserve Force; and senior AFP Sergeant Majors.

The DND-AFP New Year’s Call follows the tradition of levees or royal receptions popular in the Canadian military and government where they renew their pledge and celebrate the events of the past year and welcome the New Year.
