The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on Sunday
announced that its roster got a much needed boost with the pending graduation
of 146 individuals from Officers' Candidate School (OCS) Monday.
This is also very timely considering that the AFP is
celebrating its 79 founding anniversary this year, military spokesperson Col.
Restituto Padilla said Sunday.
"These officers are going to help a lot in increasing
and strengthening our fight against lawless elements, especially knowing that
most of them will be deployed in these areas where (we) are now conducting law
enforcement operations," he added.
But more (important) that than, the infusion of fresh young
blood into the organization is always part of the dynamics and growing process
to strengthen the Armed Forces, " Padilla stressed.
He also said that the OCS like the Philippine Military
Academy (PMA) is one of the key sources of officers in the AFP.
Recruitment for OCS candidates usually takes place during
college.
Padilla added that OCS instructors usually go for
candidates, who already have completed their degrees and Reserve Officers'
Training Course, and have expressed intentions of joining the AFP.
The AFP spokesperson stressed that OCS is much shorter than
those of the PMA as it no longer deals with academic subjects and focuses
solely on military training and courses.
