From the Mindanao Examiner BlogSpot site (Dec 14): 4 NPA rebels yield to military in Bukidnon province
Four communist rebels have surrendered to the military in southern Philippines in what officials claimed is a victory against the insurgency in the restive region.
The Eastern Mindanao Command said among those who surrendered to the 68th Infantry Battalion in Bukidnon’s San Fernando town was a squad leader of the New People’s Army which has been fighting for decades now for a separate state in the country.
It identified the rebel leader as Ben Indagnay and his followers Boyno Maylan, Jomar Panganlagan and Janice Vallero, who was a medic for the NPA. They surrendered three rifles and a pistol.
The military said the rebels surrendered because of hardship and abuse by their senior cadres and the four also admitted that they were moved by the good deeds and display of sincerity by Bayanihan Teams of 68th Infantry Battalion – the same statement the Eastern Mindanao Command makes every time rebels surrender.
It said the rebels will receive compensation for all the weapons they surrendered to the military and a set of government financial aid to allow them to start a new life with their families.
