Three members of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) were killed while two soldiers were wounded in a clash Thursday in the hinterlands of Basilan province, a military official disclosed.
Capt. Ma. Rowena Muyuela, Western Mindanao Command
(Westmincom) information officer, said the clash broke out around 6:55 a.m.
Thursday while the troops were conducting law enforcement operations in
Tipo-Tipo town, Basilan.
Muyuela did not release the identities of the wounded
soldiers except to say they belong to the Army’s 18th Infantry Battalion.
She said the bodies of the killed ASG members were brought
by their companions.
She said the slain Abu Sayyaf brigands were followers of ASG
leaders Furudji Indama and Nurhassan Jamiri.
“The firefight is still ongoing,” she added.
