Southern Luzon Command chief, Major Gen. Ricardo Visaya, on Wednesday announced that the number of families evacuated from the communities near Mount Mayon in Albay has now reached 2,222 families or 10,593 persons.

As of 11 a.m. Wednesday, Visaya said the figure can be broken down into: Tabaco City, 282 families; Guinobatan, 1,144 families; Camalig, 378; Ligao City, 18; and Malilipot with 400 families.

"Evacuation is very orderly," he said.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology raised the volcano's alert status to Level 3 Monday night.

Earlier, Visaya said evacuation started in 60 barangays within the five to eight kilometers danger zone.

An estimated 10,000 families are expected to be evacuated with some 50 trucks being readied for the effort.
