Nine militiamen serving with the Compostela Valley-based 10th Infantry Division were decorated with the Military Merit Medal for their exemplary service during an encounter in Kapalong, Davao del Norte which resulted in the death of three rebels last Sept. 14.
Major Gen. Eduardo M. Año, 10th Infantry Division commander, handed out the medals during simple ceremonies on Monday to CAFGU Active Auxiliaries Ongging Masaloon, Aurelio Masaloon, Macoy Ugail, Jonathan Liruan, Noel Warag, Allan Ompocanon, Larry Masaloon, Micmic Casiano, and their leader, Cpl. Lito Masaloon.
These militiamen were honored for their successful operations in Sitio Poton, Barangay Gupitan, Kapalong, Davao del Norte which resulted in the death of three rebels and wounding of two government troopers.
Soldiers recovered two high-powered firearms, an improvised explosive device and a hand grenade from the scene of the encounter.
