No activities monitored after BIFF pledge of allegiance to ISIS – Army official

From GMA News (Sep 30): No activities monitored after BIFF pledge of allegiance to ISIS – Army official

An Army regional commander maintained Tuesday that they have not monitored any unusual activities after the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) and Abu Sayyaf rebels pledged support to the militant Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

In an interview, Major General Edmundo Pangilinan, 6th Infantry Division commander, said they also have yet to receive any documents proving that the rebel groups have indeed alligned themselves with the Islamic State.

"Wala pang ganon na ka-concrete na proof, except nga 'yung pronouncement nga sa media ni Abu Misry na they support, and they are alligning themselves dito sa ISIS."

In August, BIFF spokesman Abu Misry Mama said: "We have an alliance with the Islamic State and Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi."

He also confirmed a YouTube video earlier uploaded, showing a purported BIFF leader flanked by armed men reading a statement of support for the IS, had come from his group.

The BIFF is a splinter group of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF). The MILF signed a peace agreement with the government in March.

On the other hand, authorities describe the Abu Sayyaf as a radical group having links with the al Qaeda and Jemaah Islamiyah terrorist organizations.
