The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), in partnership with Teach Peace Build Peace Movement (TPBPM) and Junior Chamber International (JCI)–Manila, will host this year’s Summer Peace Camp.
The event started Friday.
The AFP recognized the importance of teaching peace in the formative years of a child and integrating an inter-generational approach on peace building, supports the vision of having a peaceful society where young generations of different faiths, cultures, and ethnic groups work together to build a culture of peace and promote peace as a way of life, military public affairs office chief Lt. Col. Ramon Zagala said.
He added that this year the TPBPM and JCI-Manila will join together on a project that would reach out and educate children on values contributing to peace.
One of its major projects is the Summer Peace Camp which will be attended by groups of Christians, Muslims, Badjaos, Dumagats, and Aetas ages 9 to 13.
Zagala said the activity is aimed toward building a culture of peace among the younger generations and empowering the children and youth to be peace builders and peace heroes.
Anchored with the theme “The Culture of Peace Adventure,” the Summer Peace Camp will teach the concept of peace through music, theater, sports, and being stewards of the environment.
It will revolve on educating the children about inter-religious, inter-cultural, and inter-generational understanding and unity among the Filipinos from diverse background.
Zagala said the AFP will participate in this noble and worthy endeavor as it is in line with the objective of strengthening the peace program support to the Internal Peace and Security Plan (IPSP) "Bayanihan", especially from the Muslim and Indigenous People’s communities.
