From GMA News (Apr 11): 18 soldiers wounded in Basilan encounter – AFP official

Eighteen soldiers were wounded in an encounter with suspected members of the Abu Sayyaf group in Basilan early Friday, an Armed Forces of the Philippines official said.

In a text message to GMA News Online, AFP public affairs office chief Lt. Col. Ramon Zagala said government forces encountered some 20 members of the ASG in Sitio Kuralem in Barangay Silangkum in Basilan's Tipo-Tipo town, resulting in the wounding of 18 soldiers.

Zagala said the enemies were believed to be under ASG sub-leader Furuji Indama operating in Basilan.

Also, he said government troops were on Strike Operation when they chanced upon the bandits, adding that the number of wounded on the enemies' side were not immediately determined.
